Today (March 30), the Association put out a call for qualified residents interested in joining the newly formed Strategic Planning Work Group.
What follows is a description of the types of residents who might be suitable to participate in this new and important group, as well as information about what the work will entail:
The Board acknowledges the significance of developing a comprehensive strategic plan to shape the future of our Association, and it has thus established the Strategic Planning Work Group (SPWG). This newly formed chartered group will be tasked with formulating an achievable Strategic Plan (SP) that supports the long-term strength, enjoyment, and vibrancy of our community. The plan will act as a clear roadmap, guiding both current and future Boards in understanding SCA priorities, ensuring continuity, and making informed decisions to keep our community welcoming, financially stable, and well-maintained for years ahead. In the coming weeks, all homeowners will have the chance to provide input and engage in this vital process.
Currently, the SPWG is looking for a few additional residents to join the group and help initiate this important work. We seek individuals with experience in areas such as strategic or community planning, capital project planning, regional or urban design, and technical or policy writing—particularly in long-range planning. Familiarity with defining metrics, key performance indicators, and standards will also be valuable.
In addition to relevant experience, ideal candidates should thrive in a collaborative team setting, have working knowledge of tools such as OneDrive or similar platforms, and contribute to a group with diverse perspectives. Members should be self-motivated, capable of completing assigned tasks, and focused on advancing the work group’s mission and objectives.
To ensure the success of this endeavor, consider that participation involves approximately 40 hours of volunteer service per month. If you are interested in participating in this undertaking, email spwg@scacai.com by April 10 with a summary of your background and how you can contribute to the team.
Here is a more detailed description of what the SPWG will be doing:
Strategic Planning Work Group
Mission Statement:
The mission of the Strategic Planning Work Group (SPWG) is to bring together residents, staff, and the Board to plan for the long-term strength, enjoyment, and vibrancy of our community. The SPWG will work collaboratively to create an achievable Strategic Plan (SP) and Long-Range Plan (LRP) for capital improvements. The SP and LRP will provide a clear roadmap that will help current and future Boards understand the priorities, maintain continuity, and make decisions that will ensure our community is welcoming, financially sound, and well maintained for years to come.
Objectives:
Understand Our Community and Its Assets
Conduct a comprehensive evaluation of all buildings, facilities, finances, and resident needs to see what’s working well and where improvements are needed.
Identify Future Priorities
Focus on future needs, pinpoint those assets that will require repair or replacement and plan for advantageous capital projects.
Foster Collaboration
Foster teamwork and open communication among residents, committees, staff, and the Board so everyone’s perspective is considered – seek input from other work groups and committees; obtain resident input through surveys, focus groups, and town hall meetings
Support Informed Decisions
Provide the Board with clear, concise information and recommendations to guide decisions that balance resident needs, asset management, and finances.
Plan for Financial Sustainability
Ensure that our long-term strategies align with reserve studies and uphold the community-wide standards established in the Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&Rs) - maintaining our community assets in excellent condition for years to come - while also undertaking necessary capital projects.
Create a Roadmap for Success
Define the association’s mission, vision for the future, operating values, needs, goals, prioritized actions and strategies, action plans, and monitor performance. Develop efficiencies, timelines, and benchmarks.
Support Board Continuity
Provide context and guidance for incoming Boards so they will understand past decisions, ongoing priorities, and will continue moving the community in a consistent direction.
Maintain Transparency
Ensure the work of the SPWG is well documented and shared with residents.
Organization:
In alignment with its mission statement, this group will facilitate a community-based strategic plan (SP) and long-range spending plan (LRP). While the SPWG members work collaboratively together and create recommendations for the Board of Directors to consider, the final recommendations to the Board will rest solely with the General Manager, who is chair of the SPWG.
Staff members will be asked to participate in SPWG discussions when specific projects are discussed that will affect their departments, e.g., Facilities Director when space is discussed, or the Fitness Director when fitness equipment is discussed.

Editorial Comment: As an example of something the SPWG might work on in the future, I am part of an unofficial group developing a proposal for raising the floor of the sunken area in the restaurant at Anthem Center. The proposal will become “official” if and when it is submitted to the SPWG for consideration as part of its work.
The thinking of our group is that if the floor is raised, it will not only eliminate an existing safety hazard related to the stairs leading to the lower area, but it might also allow for significant expansion of the existing lounge area adjacent to the bar, which is proving extremely popular during Happy Hour and into the evening.

Wow! The insanity of what was put out for the request for strategic planning is absurd as it was clearly from a text book. Already on this committee are Wendy Linow and Pamella Williams and Michelle Sharples. We happen to have an expert on strategic planning living in our Community both as to creation and implementation. This person taught the subject both for undergrad and grad and has effectively implemented in a corporate environment. This person recognizes the nature of the wannabees who are just selling BS. No actual experience. No competent GM. This is just another formula for A Yorktown or Global NorthStar misfire.
I too have extensive strategic Planning credentials and no one in their right mind would join this politically driven train wreck. The board ought to hire professionals . But first SCA needs a competent board. Vote for Candidates #1,2,3. It’s a good start.
David,
Masterpiece needs to tweak their dinner menu to give more than one entree choice and not have so many starches at the same meal. Don’t know whom they think they are catering to.
